With seven grease-covered days behind us, Jacqui and I finally paused to proudly observe our completed motor installation. It was late in the day and we were exhausted, which added to our decision to wait until morning to start up the engine. After all, with a conversion of this magnitude, there were bound to be hiccups and I didn’t want discovering them to pollute my night’s sleep.
Little did I know, any start up issues we were about to encounter would pale in comparison to what was lurking in our near future.
Water, border from hell and more water
Our hot spring was nestled into a crevice between two mountains. Hot steaming water was steadily pouring down the rocks into the pool. The moon and a single star could be seen in the narrow view the two mountains and lush vegetation afforded us, while a steady pink glow flushed the clouds from the setting sun. A haze of steam was rising from the water and surrounded us. Some might call it romantic.

For Jacqui and I the evil, imaginary metronome that represents time was ticking. Last year after the Dolphin crashed and we purchased the then-unnamed PennyWagon, we got ourselves a one year Mexican Car Insurance plan, and now that year is drawing to a close.

As we left Overlander Oasis Jacqui and I had nearly 4 months in Mexico under our belts this trip alone. The Guatemalan border is drawing close. The plan of a year long trip is showing itself to be ludicrous, if not impossible. That of course is assuming you'd like to see any of the two continents we'll be traveling from a vantage point other than behind the windshield.

On a lazy Sunday afternoon Jacqui and I left Yucuita, and the wonderful Mexican family that had temporarily adopted us, to head towards Overlander Oasis just outside Oaxaca. Only problem was, we didn’t have a reservation till the following day, so we dedicated ourselves to the exploration of downtown Oaxaca and some central-city-covert-camping so we could enjoy a bit of nightlife.
